DIMA Courses / Modules
DIMA offers courses for various Bachelor's study programs, e.g. Computer Science (Informatik), Business Informatics (Wirtschaftsinformatik), Computer Engineering (Techn. Informatik), or Industrial Engineering (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen).
Our graduate courses provide an ideal foundation for software engineering oriented students. They enable to understand the background and theory of database systems and information management, and, finally, to design and implement database applications and complex information management solutions.
You find the detailed, current descrictions of our courses in the MOSES Moduldatenbank [2], as well as the course lists (Modullisten [3]) of your study programme with mandatory modules, mandatory electives and optional modules.
Here you find a short description of our modules of Bachelor offers with focus on Database Systems and Information Management.
ISDA
Information Systems & Data Analysis
VL+UE, 6 ECTS, 2 SWS
Course Language: German
Upon completion of this course, students will have: (i) mastered basic concepts in information management and relational database management systems (RDBMS), (ii) learned how to develop information models, and (iii) grasped how to formulate queries in relational algebra and express these in SQL. They will be able to describe a data warehouse, compare it to transaction systems, and decide which requirements are essential for a given application profile. Furthermore, they will learn about data analytics using classification & clustering algorithms and apply them to a database using SQL and Java

MOSES Course Description [5] (valid since SS 2017)
DBSEM
Datenbankseminar - Foundations of Database Systems
SEM, 3 ECTS, 2 SWS
Course Language: English
MOSES Course Description [6] (valid since WS 2018/19)

MOSES Course Description [7] (valid since SS 2018)
INFMOD II
Advanced Information Modelling
IV, 6 ECTS, 4 SWS
Course Language: English
This module offers an advanced course in “Information Modeling” and “Modeling Methodology”. Participants will achieve detailed competences in modeling as well classical databases and information systems as well as highly heterogeneous distributed information systems. They will be enabled to integrate static (structure) and dynamic (processes and behavior) modeling approaches for these classes of information systems. The competence of critically choosing (or even developing) an appropriate set of modeling techniques and the modeling methodology for complex information modeling tasks by understanding the foundations of modeling languages (semantics and metamodelling approaches) is the main qualification objective. Participants are enabled to use and modify advanced modeling constructs, applying (meta-)modeling methodology to model-based integration of software and data components
MOSES Course Description [8] (valid since SS 2017)
DW
Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence
IV, 6 ECTS, 4 SWS
Course Language: English
The comprehensive thematic of this course is organized in three blocks. In the first block the development and management methods for DWH in relational databases are presented (architectures, ETL-process, OLAP operations, Bitmap-index). In the second block complex topics in relation to data analysis and exploration are examined in more detail (multidimensional data model, logic modeling, view materialization, etc.). In the last block, current research questions (Cloud, TextAnalytics) and practical experience (invited expert in the field) are addressed
MOSES Course Description [9] (valid since SS 2017)
Bachelor's Thesis Opportunities
DIMA thesis opportunities provide students with challenging research problems and enable them to collaborate with national and international research partners. DIMA regularly offers numerous Bachelor‘s thesis opportunities, often tied to ongoing research projects from various fields.
