Berlin Center for Machine Learning - BZML

Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and established in 2018, the Berlin Center for Machine Learning (BZML) is a national competence center for machine learning (ML). Led by the Technische Universität Berlin (TUB), the BZML consortium partners include Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute, FU Berlin (Zuse Institute Berlin), HU Berlin, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science Berlin, the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics, the University of Potsdam, and the Weierstrass Institute Berlin.

The BZML gathers leading interdisciplinary ML scientists and scientists in related disciplines in a single center, to conduct research in ML, in particular, to develop novel ML methods and complex models and investigate the mathematical foundations. The BZML aims to expand interdisciplinary ML research, both in proven research constellations as well as in new, highly topical scientific objectives that have not yet been jointly researched. BZML experts will further develop techniques to interpret and explain complex learning methods, in order to arrive at robust and trustworthy models suitable for use in biomedicine, communication, and the digital humanities.
